8 Things NOT to say to a mother of Twins.....
"You don't look like the mother of twins." What exactly is the mother of twins supposed to look like? Tearful with spit up on both shoulders?
"Are they identical?" Maybe a fair question about twins of the same sex, but most people can't seem to understand that opposite sex twins CAN"T be identical.
"Better you than me!" While it is hard to respond to this remark, mothers of twins do get twice the love and kisses.
"Did you take fertility drugs?" Where I did or not, I usually look quite shocked by this rude question.
"My two children are so close in age, they're practically twins!" But, they are not. They won't start school together, share a birthday, or face years of being lumped together as one unit, forever referred to as "the twins".
"You've got your hands full!" Mothers of twins are fully aware of this fact. A good response might be, "I certainly will be by the time the triplets arrive!"
"Two for the price of one!" Well not exactly. Where are the savings in buying two sets of clothes and shoes every few months? Twins can't take advantage of hand me downs, as they usually grow out of clothing at about the same rate.
"Double Trouble!" The biggest problem with this comment is that everyone who says it is convinced it's the first time you've heard it! I usually say through gritted teeth, "Not at all, it's double the blessing!"
Twins to Love
There's two to wash, there's two to dry
There's two who argue, there's two who cry
One's in the mud having a ball
The other holds a crayon, there's marks on the wall
Some days seem endless, my patience grows thin
Why was I chosen a mother of twins?
The answer comes clear at the end of the day
As I tuck them in bed and to myself say...
There's two to kiss, there's two to hug
And best of all, there's two to love

Mother of Twins
It only happens to one in eighty,
or so statistics claim,
But after it happens to anyone
Nothing's ever the same.
You have double the trouble,
And twice as much work,
And twice as much loving to do,
But when, with the years, you are lonely and old,
Twice the love will come to you.
You'll have twice as much pleasure,
And twice as much pain,
Share twice as much gladness and joy,
And think of the lovely figure you'll gain
As you bend to pick up each toy.
You'll learn twice the patience,
Grow twice as much faith,
As you teach them life's battles to win,
So aren't you proud to be one out of eighty
That God chose to be Mother of Twins.
The Mother of Twins
A meeting was convened one day
In Heaven's sacred hall.
The ideal mother must be found
For twins so sweet and small.
She must be patient, first of all,
And kind and calm and wise,
And capable of chasing tears
Away from little eyes.
She'd have to put her children first
And be so very smart,
Have dedication and resolve,
A sweet and loving heart.
They all agreed you were the best -
No other mom would do.
Yes, Heaven found the perfect one
And sent the twins to you!

The Birth of Twins
Once upon a time, twin children were conceived. Seconds, minutes, hours passed as the two dormant lives developed. The faint spark of life flickered then glowed until it fanned fire with the formation of their minute embryonic brains. With their brains came sensation, especially feeling, and with feeling, perception. A perception of surroundings, of each other, of self.
When they perceived each other's life and their own life, they knew that life was good, and they laughed and rejoiced, the one saying: "Lucky we are to have been conceived, and to have this world, and the other chiming: "Blessed be the mother and father who gave us life and each other."
Each budded and flowered arms and fingers, lean legs and stubby toes. They stretched their lungs, churned and turned in their new-found world. They explored their world with passion, and in it found the life cord which gave them life from the precious mother's blood. So they sang: "How great is the love of the mother that she shares all she has with us!" And they were pleased and satisfied with their lot in the mother's womb.
Weeks passed into months and, with the advent of each new month, they noticed a change in each other and each began to see change in himself. "We are changing," said the one. "What can it mean?" Pondering for a moment, the other replied: "It means we are drawing near to birth."
An iceberg chill crept over the two, and they both feared, for they knew that birth meant leaving all the warmth of their world behind. Said the one: "Were it up to me, I would live here forever, it's so cozy and comfortable."
"We must be born," said the other. "It has happened to all others who were here." For indeed there was evidence of life there before, as the mother had borne others.
"But mightn't there be life after birth?"
"How can there be life after birth?" cried the one. "Do we not shed our life cord and also the blood tissues? And have you ever talked to one that has been born? Has anyone re-entered the womb after birth? NO!" He fell into despair, and in his despair he moaned: "If the purpose of conception and all our growth is that it be ended in birth, then truly our life is absurd."
Resigned to despair, the one infant stabbed the darkness with his unsee-ing eyes and as he clutched his precious life cord to his chest said: "If this is so, and life is absurd, then there really can be no mother."
"But there is a mother," proclaimed the other. "Who else gives us nourishment and our world?"
"We get our nourishment, and our world has always been here. And if there is a mother, where is she? Have you ever seen her? Does she ever talk to you? NO! We invented the mother because it satisfied a need in us. It made us feel secure and happy."
Thus while one raved and despaired, the other resigned himself to birth, and placed his trust in the hands of the mother.
Hours gurgled into days, and days fell into weeks. And it came time. Both knew that their birth was at hand, and both feared what they did not know. As the one was the first to be conceived, so he was the first to be born, and the other following after.
They cried as they were born into the light. And coughed out fluid and gasped the dry air. And when they were sure they had been born, they opened their eyes seeing for the first time, and found themselves cradled in the warm love of their mother. They lay open-mouthed, awe struck before that beauty and truth they could not have hoped to have known.
God Made Two
So many good things come in pairs,
Like ears and socks and panda bears.
But best of all are sets of twins,
With extra laughter,double grins.
There's so much fun in having two,
With twice as many points of view.
So much alike, forever linked,
And yet they're also quite distinct.
They share a birthday and a name,
But moods and tempers aren't the same.
Although at times they may dispute,
Their loyalty is absolute.
From days of youth till life is done,
It's one for both and both for one.
We're all quite novel and precise,
But special folks...God made twice.
A Gift From God
Now is the time when things settle down,
that one has a chance to look around.
To take a deep breath, smile and say
today really wasn't such a bad day.
That nobody got hurt, nobody got sick,
and Mom's coffee table got just one new nick.
Which is truly amazing considering the fact,
God gave you two babies, you cant send one back.
Yes, you have twins, that you can't ignore,
as you scrape the dried oatmeal off the floor.
The pleasures are many, the troubles are few,
remember you're a Mom doubly blessed with two.
No matter how bad things really seem,
one can take sour milk and turn it to cream.
For the day will come when they're no longer small,
and you'll say to yourself it wasn't any trouble at all.
So remember when you have trouble with your little pair,
that they were a gift from God, so precious and rare.
Some people will loose, but you'll share the wins,
because you were made the Mother of Twins.
Two Little Angels
Once upon a time there were two little angels who lived in Heaven and enjoyed a very happy time there. They gathered the evening dew and sprinkled it across the silvery clouds to bring fresh rain to the wilting daffodils Early one spring it doesn't really matter when exactly, the angel Gabriel came to the two little angels with tidings of great news!
"Your time has come, precious angels, for your spirits to enter their bodies, and become children to earthly parents. What a joy you will bring them and what joy you will harvest for yourselves! You will be able to run your feet across the smooth, warm ground, you will smell the grass after a quick summer storm. You'll feel the bite of winter's breath upon your face, and ah, the adventures that will challenge you! Your chances for great success. . .the hope that you will have for true love. And the taste of salty tears spilling from a heart overflowing!"
Yet even as the angel Gabriel spoke of these new beginnings, the two little angels felt great sorrow. They looked to one another, their eyes exchanging a shared thought.
"But we have always been together!" one young angel cried.
"I know," the other answered.
"But I'll never be happy on earth without you!" the young angel cried again.
"I know," the other answered.
The earthly messengers arrived. One each for the little spirits and they led them apart; the little angels, in desperate grief, reached each one a tiny hand out to the other, a last touch, a final good-bye. Their heartbeats, like thunder in a silent night, trumpeted in unison.
And God listened. Feeling their pain, he summoned Gabriel to his side.
"The love of these two friends moves us to change our laws. Enable them to enter the world through one womb so that they may remain together past the veil of heaven. But as you impart their souls into the life's blood of their mother, fill her heart with the tender knowledge of my great love for them, so that she will care for them as I would care for them. Command that she and their father cherish their special birth, and know that it was they who have chosen one another."
So with this decree, the two little angels left one another to enter Heaven's place of souls before their decent to Earth. But at the last instant before their journey to Earth, one little angel looked earnestly into the eyes of the other and shouted off,
"See you soon! You know I'll always be there for you!! Love you!!"
"I know," the other answered.
Double Blessed Mother of Twins
Dear God:
My eyes have never seen a sight so exciting,so divine.
I'm blessed not once but twice,
it seems no wealth can be compared to mine.
I've double the work double the cries,
I've double pairs of adoring eyes,
I've double the diapers to wash
double the chores to do but also
double mouths that kiss and coo.
I've double the feedings
,must plan a double meal,
but also double pairs of tiny hands to feel.
I've double trouble as I've said before
but something wondlerfull is worth
working double for.
So God in conclusion, I must confess
I fell very honored with my special guests.
The twins you've sent me let me know that you think
I'm someone doubly special too..I thank you! I thank you!

Your Twins
The heavens were excited...
Statistics were just right.
"Gather 'round," the wisest angel said,
"God's designing TWINS tonight.
It's quite a marvelous process
As anybody knows...
Two separate souls begin their lives,
As His love just overflows
Perhaps He'll make them just alike
Or different as can be
But that's the way He wants it...
He's planned it that way, you see.
He then must find a loving Mom
A very special Dad...
For TWINS take special parents,
And THE BEST just must be had!!
Twins We Are
Twins we are it's plain to see
I'm just like you you're just like me
Two grow together from the start
Beneath our mothers' loving heart
Though soon we'll walk a separate path
You'll always be my other half
Lord, thank you from us both. Amen.
'Cause we were born with our best friend
